Chinese players won both the men’s and women’s 8 ball titles of the 2016 China Billiards World Championship held in Yushan, Jiangxi Provence in China.

China’s Shi Han-Qing beat England’s Mick Hill 21-20 in a marathon final. Hill, had lead 13-11 after the opening session and extended that lead further in the final session to 15-12. Shi fought his way back in to the match to level the match at 16-a-piece and the pair traded frames until the fortieth frame for a score-line 20-20.

The final frame decider saw Shi clear up for a hard fought victory against the Englishman. England’s Darren Appleton finish third in the event.

China’s Siming Chen claimed the women’s title with 17-11 win over the former English snooker professional Kelly Fisher.

Kelly Fisher has held world titles in 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball and snooker throughout her career but found the break deserting her in this competition. Chen on the other-hand mastered the break, making balls on her break to give her control of the table.

Chen always had the upper-hand in the match, winning the opening session 11-7. The second session saw Chen dominate the opening exchanges as she moved in to a 15-9 lead to leave her just 2 frames from victory. Chen made a couple of mistakes which allowed her opponent to make up a couple of frames but Chen soon claimed the 2 frames she needed for a comfortable win in the end.

China’s Liu Sha-Sha finished third in the women’s event.
