Scorpion wins Players Championship
Johnny Archer has won the Brunswick Mens Professional Players Championship.
In a flashback to Archer's victory last October in the Predator Atlanta Open, Archer bounced back from a second round loss and swept through the one-loss side to earn the tournament victory. Archer suffered a surprising 10-2 loss to Frankie Hernandez on Friday, but that would be Archer's only loss all weekend.
Archer started his run on the left side of the board with a hill-hill win over #2 seed Charlie Williams, followed by wins over Robb Saez, Jimmy Reid, Mika Immonen, Troy Frank, Fabio Petroni, Chris Szuter, Jose Garcia and Ralf Souquet to get to the finals.
Archer's opponent in the finals was Jose Parica, coincidentally the same opponent Archer faced in the finals last October in Atlanta. Parica took a much shorted route to the finals with wins over Martin Rimlinger, Teddy Garrahan, Jimmy Reid, Tony Robles, Chris Szuter and Ralf Souquet.
Parica may have been unbeaten in the tournament up to the finals, but Archer rode the momentum to a dominating 10-4 win and started the new UPA season by backing up his position as #1 on the points list.
Archer earned $10,000 for first place, while Parica settled for $5000. Souquet and Jose Garcia filled out the top four positions.
