The
2005 World Pool Championships kick off this year on the 2nd
of July. This years event stays in Asia, this time Kaohsiung
in Taiwan. 128 Players from over 40 different countries will
stake their claim of World Pool Champion and a slice of the
$350,000 prize pool.
Fong Pang Chao and compatriot Ching Shun Yang will relish
home field advantage this year, with the ever consistant filipino/canadian
Alex Pagulyan seeking to retain his crown after defeat in
the previous years championship against Thorsten Hohman.
So who's in it this year? Alex Pagulayan, Thorsten Hohmann,
Earl Strickland, Mikka Immonen and Fong Pang Chao will be
there as previous winners of this event along with recent
runners-up Pee Wee Chang and Francisco Bustamante. Others
invited include last years top 16 finishers, Imran Majid,
CC Huang, CC Kang, R Luat, PC Kuo, M Chamat, T Schober, M
Manalo, E Reyes, D Orcollo, J Archer, N Bergendorff. Making
up the rest of the field will be regional and national champions
and high ranked players from many countries. The remaining
several spots will be up for grabs in the qualifiers held
in Kaohsiung in the week leading up to the start of the tournament.
